The National Hall building is iconic for its Italianate architecture and soaring views of the Saugatuck River. But soon the 140 year-old landmark will also be acclaimed for innovative cuisine as Vespa, a stylish Mediterranean restaurant, opens its doors in Westport.

The area around Westport’s National Hall is quickly becoming ground-zero for hip new restaurants; first, BarTaco opened, then Neat brought coffee by day and cocktails by night, now, Vespa swings into a swanky ground floor space on the corner of Post and Wilton Roads. Equally chic and cozy, the restaurant is divided into three “rooms” that flow gracefully into each other. Dominated by a black and white herringbone topped bar, the bar area provides the perfect spot for sipping craft cocktails and people watching, the understated main dining room offers sleek tables and minimalist lighting, while the wine room is paneled in racks of vino creating an intimate feel . The overall effect is contemporary, yet casual enough for a family gathering or weeknight dinner out with friends, yet sophisticated enough to feel special on a weekend night.
